Dental Bonding ProcedureAre you suffering from tooth decay? Do you need your cavities filled? Well, with dental bondings, that's no problem. Here in Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA, dentist, Dr. Marv Thomas can help you get the healthier and whiter smile you want.

Bonding uses tooth-colored materials called “composite resins,” which consist of a mixture of plastic and glass, to provide translucency and strength, and hide cosmetically unattractive defects. The composite bonds with the rest of your tooth and fixes:

  • Chips
  • Fractures
  • Minor spacing
  • Irregularities
  • Discoloration

The procedure doesn't involve laboratory work and is completed in 30 minutes to an hour in your doctor's Lake Ridge or Woodbridge, VA, office. In order to prepare your teeth for the composite, your dentist will apply an etching solution to the surface of your tooth, then composite resin that matches the color of your teeth is applied and molded to the right shape. Then your doctor uses a curing light to harden composite.

After your doctor has finished the procedure, your teeth will look natural.

Some other advantages include:

  • Your teeth will look natural so you won't feel self-conscious when you smile, as mentioned above
  • The composite strengthens your teeth, so you can enjoy your meals without having to worry about applying too much pressure on your tooth

Preventative care is key to maintaining your dental health and dental bondings. Dental bondings should be cared for like natural teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day, after breakfast and before bed, and floss at least once. This will help keep your teeth healthy and avoid new cavities from flourishing in your new composite bonding, or any of your other teeth.

If you have any questions or concerns about dental bonding in Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA, then call your dentist at (703) 580-8288 or (703) 580-1443.
