The Importance of Routine Dental Exams
Don’t think you need to get your teeth professionally cleaned? Think again!
When was the last time you had your teeth cleaned at the dentist’s office? If you aren’t so good about keeping up with those routine appointments, find out the importance of these checkups and why you should call our Woodbridge, VA dentists Dr. Marv Thomas, Dr. Armen Zarookian and Dr. Melanie Allgeyer more regularly.
The dental world has recommended that people get their teeth cleaned by their dentist every six months. Why every six months? Because by the time you come in to see your general dentist in Woodbridge you will most likely have enough tartar buildup that it will need to be removed. This isn’t a snub on you; a lot of people come in with tartar buildup (which can quickly lead to gum disease), which is why these six-month visits are strongly advised.
Can people get away with seeing their dentist less frequently?
While it is possible it’s not recommended. Those who are in their 20s and 30s who are extremely healthy, avoid sugar, eat balanced meals and floss each day may be able to get away with seeing their dentist less frequently. But let’s face it, many people enjoy those sugary treats every once in a while and not everyone flosses each day without fail.
In fact, some patients may benefit from coming in more often than six months. While this may not be what you want to hear, if you want to keep your smile looking its best, than you’ll certainly want to listen up. Those who drink lots of sodas, partake in sugary foods often, those who are older, those who’ve been diagnosed with gum disease or have bone damage, as well as smokers should consider coming in more often for dental care as they are often more at risk for developing cavities, gum disease and other issues.
Preventive care is always better than needing expensive dental treatment down the road. The Dental Spa in Woodbridge, VA is committed to helping you maintain the healthiest smile. Schedule your next cleaning today!
