Patients struggle with a wide range of orthodontic issues that can make them insecure about their teeth, and also interfere with how they eat or speak. If you’re wondering if braces can help you, the answer is most likely yes. But a dentist at The Dental Spa in Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA must examine you to determine which braces are best for your specific situation.

Braces Can Help You
Braces are dental devices that can completely transform the shape, position, orientation, and general look of your teeth. They don’t just help straighten out your smile for a better appearance, they also help resolve bite issues and even TMJ (jaw pain) disorder in some cases. Braces can also change the shape of your jawline, giving you a more favorable overall facial appearance. This is why dentists usually recommend that young children have orthodontic treatment as soon as they are the right age. It can make a major difference in the way that they look, chew, talk, and feel about themselves in the future.

The Most Common Types of Braces
There are several different types of braces offered at The Dental Spa in Woodbridge. The one that is right for your smile will depend on the specific orthodontic issues you have. Metal braces are common for major dental imperfections, like large gaps, “extra teeth” on the gumline, and overlapping of the teeth. Some people prefer the less obvious look of ceramic or lingual braces. Patients who have relatively minor orthodontic problems may qualify for Invisalign invisible braces.

Bettering Your Smile with Braces
Don’t underestimate the short and long-term value of improving your smile with braces. It provides significant cosmetic and functional advantages for your smile that will be beneficial to you for decades. A straighter smile can give your self-esteem, confidence, social life, and even future career prospects a boost.

Come in for an Orthodontic Consultation
The only way to find out for sure if braces could help you is to have a dentist take a close look at your teeth. You might learn that you are a candidate for Invisalign, which may only require you to wear clear trays for six to 12 months. Call (703) 580-8288 today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Marv Thomas in Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA.

Find out the many benefits of getting Invisalign in Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA.invisalign

When it comes to choosing the orthodontic treatment that’s right for you, our Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA, dentist, Dr. Marv Thomas, knows that there are so many different options that it can feel daunting. If you are an adult who has always wanted that perfect smile but is suffering from gaps between teeth or a crooked, uneven smile, it’s time you found out more about what Invisalign could do to help.

Cosmetic Appeal

Wearing metal braces, as you might imagine, can be rather embarrassing, particularly if you are in school or out in the working world. You don’t want people around you to suddenly make a big deal about you getting braces. Well, now you don’t have to. You can get the smile you want without others noticing. Instead of metal, Invisalign uses a set of customized clear aligners. They look similar to mouthguards except the thin, precise design of the aligners make them fit snugly over the teeth so people won’t notice.

Comfortable to Wear

Wearing these clear aligners instead can certainly take the discomfort out of having braces. Since each aligner is carefully crafted just for you, you won’t have to worry about uncomfortable, painful treatment.

No Potential Damage

While your aligners aren’t impervious to stains or other damage, it always puts a parent’s mind at ease to find out that aligners are much safer than wearing wires, which—if damaged—could puncture your gums or tongue. Especially if your adolescent is an athlete who participates in contact sports, choosing Invisalign over traditional braces will negate the chances of damaged braces or scratched mouths.

Easy on Your Lifestyle

There is no doubt about it—braces can certainly cramp your style. If the idea of spending a lot of time meticulously flossing and brushing between precarious wires and brackets has you anxious, then it might be time to talk to your Lake Ridge and Woodbridge general dentists about Invisalign. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can take them out right before eating or before caring for your smile. This way, you don’t have to change your oral routine or your diet.

Are you ready to turn to Invisalign to get your dream smile? If so, The Dental Spa in Lake Ridge and Woodbridge, VA, is ready to help. Call us today to schedule your no-risk consultation.

Could you be the perfect candidate for invisible braces? Let’s find out!

Maybe you think you are too old for braces and that ship to a straighter smile has sailed, but what if your Woodbridge, VA dentists--Dr. invisalignMarv Thomas, Dr. Armen Zarookian and Dr. Melanie Allgeyer--told you that you could have a straighter smile without having to sport a metal mouth for a year or more? Doesn’t that sound amazing? Well, it’s all possible with Invisalign, the nearly invisible way to get a straighter smile.

How complex are your dental issues?

While Invisalign can handle a wide variety of mild to more severe cases, it can’t do everything traditional braces can. If you need more complicated tooth movements or if you have jaw abnormalities, then Invisalign may not be the best choice. However, the only way to know is by seeing your restorative dentist in Woodbridge to determine if Invisalign is right for your dental goals.

How old are you?

Are you a late teen or adult? If so, Invisalign could be the right option. While children can’t benefit from these invisible aligners, late teens and adults who have lost all of their baby teeth and whose second molars have come through completely are often great candidates.

How dedicated are you to your treatment?

Because Invisalign is a series of clear, removable aligners, this means you are responsible for your treatment. If you don’t wear your aligners often enough (about 20-22 hours a day), then you won’t get the results you want and you’ll delay your treatment. If you are ready to be responsible for caring and cleaning your aligners, then you may be right for Invisalign treatment.

Do you have health insurance?

One major factor that helps people determine whether Invisalign is the right choice is to take a look at their finances. Because Invisalign can be a bit pricier than traditional braces, it’s important to know that you have the budget for your aligners, have health insurance that may cover a portion of it, or have talked to us about a payment plan.

Turn to our Woodbridge, VA cosmetic dentists at The Dental Spa to get the smile you’ve always wanted. If Invisalign sounds like the right treatment for you, then it’s time you scheduled a consultation with us today.

If you are insecure about your misaligned crooked teeth, then you may be a perfect candidate for clear orthodontic aligners. This system is an alternative to traditional braces that uses a sequence of individual, clear, removable “trays” that fit over your teeth to gradually straighten them. Each tray is completely clear and covers all the teeth thus making it virtually invisible. Each tray is designed to slightly move the teeth until the teeth are in proper alignment. Typically, each tray must be worn for 20 hours a day for 2 weeks before progressing to the next tray in the sequence with each tray moving you closer towards your goal — perfectly aligned teeth.

However, clear orthodontic aligners are not for everyone. If you are interested and wonder if they can benefit you, contact us so that we can schedule an appointment for a thorough evaluation to assess your specific situation. Below, we have briefly outlined some situations when they will and will not work.

Clear orthodontic aligners work if...

  • You have mild to moderate crowding or spacing issues between teeth
  • Back teeth fit together properly

They may not be the right choice if...

  • You have moderate to severe crowding or spacing issues between teeth
  • When your bite does not align properly (for example, if you have a large over-, under-, or cross-bite)
  • When your teeth are “rotated” way out of position; such misaligned teeth will require special or complex techniques to rotate them back into position, or to pull them down into place or to fill the space left after pulling a tooth to resolve excessive crowding of teeth

Braces ImageLearn about the types of braces and whether orthodontics could benefit your smile.
While we may think about childhood when we think about braces, it seems that braces aren’t just for kids anymore. People of all ages are reaping the benefits of orthodontic care because it’s never too late to get a straighter smile. If you’ve been contemplating getting braces in Woodbridge, then you may be wondering if you are a good candidate. Your Woodbridge dentists at The Dental Spa are here to let you know who will most likely benefit from braces.
As we mentioned before, you don’t have to be a child or teenager to get braces. In fact, according to Oral B, about 20 percent of braces wearers are actually adults. Here are some of the most common dental problems that have patients of all ages seeking orthodontic treatment:
  • Overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crossbites, underbites and overbites
  • Jaw misalignment
  • Gaps between teeth
Braces can correct all of these issues; however, the most important factor is choosing the proper type of braces to straighten your smile.
We offer a variety of different braces for our patients to choose from:

Traditional metal braces

This is still the most commonly used orthodontic treatment and advanced technology has made it significantly more comfortable than you may remember from your childhood years. Plus, metal braces are often the better option for those with complicated dental problems.

Self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces boast lighter wires and less friction to help move teeth into their proper place. Because of this, they tend to be more comfortable and also easier to clean than traditional braces. Plus, treatment times tend to be quicker than with metal braces.

Clear braces

These are similar to traditional braces; however, since the brackets are made from ceramics it’s less visible. This is a popular option for teenagers and adults looking to straighten their smiles with more aesthetically appealing qualities. However, one thing to keep in mind is that ceramics are not as strong a metal; therefore, you will need to be more careful with your braces and repairs may be more common than with traditional metal braces.

Lingual braces

These metal braces are just like traditional braces, but they are attached to the back of the teeth for discreet teeth straightening. The most important thing to consider before opting for lingual braces is your bite. Those with severely overlapped teeth could potentially put more pressure on these braces, causing them to fracture or break more often. However, the decision to opt for lingual braces is entirely up to you.

These clear removable aligners make it easy to hide the fact that you are wearing braces; however, not everyone is a good candidate. Invisalign can correct minor to moderate crookedness and misalignment, but will not be the best option when it comes to correcting more severely crooked smiles. Also those with underbites and children whose smiles are still developing, will not benefit from this type of orthodontics.
To truly find out what braces are right for you, you will need to come in for a thorough evaluation. We would be happy to set up your next appointment with The Dental Spa. Call our Woodbridge offices today - Spa One is available at (703) 580-1443, and Spa Two at (703) 580-8288.
